The 9th of October, 2025 marks World Sight Day, a Global Day of Awareness dedicated to eye health. At The Eye Place, we’re proud to support this important initiative and to do our part in helping our community see clearly.

Why world sight day matters

Over 2.2 billion people around the world live with visual impairment, and at least one billion of these vision impairments could have been prevented or are yet to be addressed. World Sight Day is a reminder that eyecare is not a luxury, it’s a necessity. Regular eye exams are key to protecting your vision and identifying early signs of serious eye conditions such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, cataracts, and more.

#LoveYourEyes campaign

As part of World Sight Day 2025, the #LoveYourEyes campaign encourages everyone to take simple, proactive steps to protect their vision. It’s not just a hashtag, it’s a global action. The message is clear: your eyes are worth caring for. Whether it’s reading, watching a movie, or enjoying the outdoors, your eyes are constantly working for you. Now it's time to return the favour.

How The Eye Place is leading with technology

At The Eye Place, we go beyond the basic eye exam. Our cutting-edge technology ensures we’re giving you the most comprehensive eyecare possible. Here’s how our advanced tech makes a difference:

Optomap retinal scanning:

Our optomap scanners offer an ultra-wide view of the retina– up to 200 degrees in a single image, which allows us to see more of your eyes than traditional methods.

With optomap, we can:

  • Screen and diagnose a range of eye diseases.
  • Indicate evidence of non-eye diseases, such as diabetes, hypertension, and certain cancers.
  • Take an image of your retina from which we can determine the best course of action.

Optical Coherence Technology (OCT):

OCT is a non-invasive imaging technique that uses light waves to take cross-section pictures of your retina. It allows each of the retina’s distinctive layers to be seen, allowing our Optometrist to map and measure their thickness, which are essential for early detection, diagnosis, and treatment guidance for retinal diseases and conditions.

With OCT, we can:

  • Monitor glaucoma progression
  • Detect macular degeneration in its earliest stages
  • Identify retinal abnormalities with incredible precision.
